The GM VIP Platform (Also known as Global B) is an incredibly complex vehicle infrastructure with a focus on security, scalability and continuous improvement. This platform was engineered in part to keep any change from the vehicles “As built” configuration from being possible. Because of this there are some things you as the consumer need to be mindful of:
- Because of the continuous improvement initiative with VIP Over the Air (or OTA) updates can be issued to the vehicle. Only GM knows exactly what is in an OTA update and which modules it programs. Because of this ANY changes to the vehicle electronics hardware or programming REQUIRE declining any OTA updates. Accepting an OTA update without knowing its contents has the potential to cause various issues with the vehicle including overwriting any programming we have done or damaging a module we have supplied with custom programming etc.
- Replacing Global B Modules with custom programmed versions that your vehicle was not originally built with (e.g. a new radio module, new instrument cluster or new VPM etc.) may require final dealer in vehicle setup. In this instance we will provide specific instructions in writing in the packaging to be taken to accomplish this and ONLY those exact steps should be taken and in the specific order they are listed. There should not be any additional steps required when shipping us modules from the vehicle that it was built with for programming.
- YOU (the customer) are responsible for making sure the dealer or other technician gets the instruction sheet discussed in item 2.
- Except in the instances above for FINAL SETUP PROCEDURES ONLY Dealers should NOT PROGRAM ANY modules we have worked on. Dealer is free to update/reprogram/replace the rest of the modules in the vehicle as needed.
- In the event you want (or need) to go back to a factory module that you have replaced with an upgraded version that we have supplied you the steps discussed in item #2 will likely have to be completed again.
